ZeelandDoc

ZeelandBoek wordt ZeelandDoc. Een journalistiek document met artikelen over Zeeland die er toe doen. Reportages, interviews, beschouwingen, achtergronden en opinies over het Zeeland van nu en straks. Door betrokken professionals gemaakt; meer of minder bekende auteurs met een hart voor Zeeland.

ZeelandDoc is een boekblad of -als u wilt- een bladboek van formaat (27x21cm;160 pagina’s) met verhalen die ergens over gaan. Mensen en meningen. Cultuur en natuur. Economie en samenleving. Stad en platteland. Zee en land. ZeelandDoc verhaalt erover. In een document waarin tekst en beeld samengaan; waarin ruimte is voor fotografie en beeldende kunst. Spotprent en wat dan ook. Vormgegeven met smaak en gevoel voor kwaliteit tot een document dat het kijken, bladeren en lezen waard is.

Een podium voor talent
ZeelandDoc is ook een podium. Voor schrijvers en dichters. Fotografen en vormgevers. Kunstenaars en andere creatieven. Jong of iets ouder, maar in elk geval veelbelovend en met veel talent.

ZeelandDoc laat zien dat Zeeland leeft, zich ontwikkelt en toekomst heeft…
Dat deze provincie meer is dan zon, zee en strand. Dat Zeeland midden in de wereld staat. En dat de wereld onmiskenbaar zichtbaar is in het Zeeland van nu.

Een nieuwe lente, een nieuw document!
ZeelandDoc verschijnt niet, zoals zijn voorganger, in het najaar, maar in het voorjaar. In maart 2010 dus, tijdens de nationale Boekenweek met als thema ‘Jong zijn’. Mooier kan het niet. ZeelandDoc is (piep)jong en ‘jong zijn in Zeeland’ komt vast aan bod in deze eerste uitgave die feestelijk zal worden gepresenteerd op een plaats die er toe doet in de Boekenweek.

It records closing down

Buying a jazz-cd at It records will be past tense. What a pity but where on earth can you buy a cd with dedicated and well-informed staff members with expertise about jazz music??? Closing It records is writing history.

It-records is one of the last independent record shops in the currently very difficult music branch and has been one of the leading shops in the field for almost 25 years. Due to its expertise and service, It-records has been able to welcome a host of customers and artists in its shop at the Lijnbaan (Donner /Selexyz bookstore, third floor) in Rotterdam and at the North Sea Jazz festival.

Having been specialist in jazz, world, pop and numerous other music trends, It-records regrettably has to put an end to its activities on 31 January 2010. This will certainly be a big loss for music and the culture of Rotterdam.

Economic considerations are the main reason for closing down the shop with the largest and broadest collection and the widest know-how in the Rijnmond area. Besides, the customer’s spending behaviour and downloading in general have led to this decision.

It-records has greatly contributed to the successful cd sales of artists such as Eric Vloeimans, Benjamin Herman/New Cool Collective and Jules Deelder, but also, for example, that of Buena Vista Social club, Carel Kraayenhof and Putumayo World cd 's.

The It-records staff members are known to have played an advisory role in programming the annual North Sea jazz festival.

It records is one of the producers of the “Aangenaam Jazz” CD, which sold more than 45,000 copies annually.

It-records is selling out its wide collection of thousands of cd’s and dvd’s at considerable discounts and will do so until the 1st of February 2010.

It-records would like to thank all its customers for the many years of frequent visits and their loyal support and hopes that the music will go on for ever…

Born Farrell Sanders in Little Rock, Arkansas, he began his professional career playing tenor saxophone in Oakland, California.

He moved to New York City in 1961 after playing with rhythm and blues bands. He received his nickname "Pharoah" from Sun Ra, with whom he was performing. He came to prominence playing with John Coltrane's band, starting in 1965, as Coltrane began adopting the avant-garde jazz of Albert Ayler, Ra and Cecil Taylor. Sanders first performed on Coltrane's Ascension (recorded in June 1965), then famously on their dual-tenor recording Meditations (recorded in November 1965). After this Sanders joined Coltrane's final quintet, usually performing very lengthy, dissonant solos. Coltrane's later style was strongly influenced by Sanders. Amiri Baraka lays claim naming him Pharoah in an early sixties Downbeat review upon hearing him introduce himself as Farrell Sanders and thinking he said "Pharaoh Sanders."
